Click here for photo gallery of memorials created in the sand at the 48th street beach in Ocean City, New Jersey.
I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to capture images of the artwork memorials which unfortunately were washed away by the following days tides. At first I had no idea what I was even looking at. A strange arrangement of materials brought in by the sea. Then a cold chill ran down my spine as the letters VT [note left photo below] came into focus on the main round memorial site. I then realized I was looking at the work of a very skilled and talented artist who was expressing in their own way the impact of the tragic events of that day in 2007.
To the artist who created the memorial collages in the sand at the beach, it is with the greatest respect and humility that I have finally decided to post these images. As I am only a photographer I am open to your direction as to how best to handle the display [or non-display] of these beautiful memorials. I am completely open to any and all comments from you, and from anyone who has an opinion on the issue of posting these photos on the Internet for public consumption. Please e-mail me with your feedback, comments, suggestions, or questions. Particularly in the event you or anyone feels that these images should not be posted I will remove them.
Thank you, John.
